To Enjoy Colour For Longer- Treat Your Hair Right!

Seasons change and hairstyles do too!  We want what we see in all the fashion magazines, but colouring, curling, straightening can cause stress on hair.  The average hair strand is exposed to over 300 washes and blow-outs, 8-10 colour treatments and 15,000 strokes with a brush or comb over a two year period.  Unhealthy, dull and damaged hair is a high price to pay for keeping up with trends.  Here are some very helpful hints on treating your hair right.

  • Select the Right Shampoo. Shampoo is not one size fits all! Choose shampoo according to the condition and health of your hair. Hair texture can change by how much damage has been done.  If you have not been nice to your hair, the best bet is to start with something that will replenish  moisture and shine.  This offers conditioning benefits in addition to giving your hair a squeaky clean wash.
  • Keep up the Conditioning. Always apply conditioner after shampooing. Conditioner fills cuticle holes and provides the scalp with a smooth surface. This helps prevent breakage by strengthening weak hair. This is especially important if you have coloured or chemically treated hair.  There are many types of products suited for all kinds of hair textures. Heavy conditioners should be used on coarser hair and more lightweight formulas on fine hair.
  • Feed Your Hair.  Not just your body. Hair is made up primarily of proteins (amino acids). Being that the body does not manufacture amino acids, it is essential that the body replenishes enough to produce healthy strands of hair. Foods that have fatty acids like fish and flaxseed oil, nourish hair follicles and stimulate growth. The end results: shiny, healthy, strong hair.
  • Injection.  Give your hair a ‘booster shot’. If hair is in serious need of damage control, go the extra mile with a professional deep conditioner or hot oil treatment. This weekly routine will be helpful to hair. In some cases an in-salon gloss or cellophane is the recommended remedy to add back shine.  Fabulous shiny, strong hair is what the doctor ordered.
